Did you know....
In cold weather make sure that if your pet is outside that they have shelter to protect them from cold wind. Giving your pet a bed inside the shelter will help keep them warmer because they won't be on the cold floor/ground.
Fresh straw (not hay) can make a nice bed in the doghouse. It is comfortable and helps keep your dog warm.
A young puppy should not be left outside when it is very cold. They cannot make themselves warm like an older dog can.
If you leave water outside for your pet, make sure that it does not become frozen. Your dog needs regular, cool water to drink, not ice. If you aren't able to change your pet's water, you might want to buy a special heated pet dish. You can check these out at your favorite pet store.

In the Beginning - Clarence and Scar:
Clarence and Scar were the first 2 animals to enter our shelter.
Clarence
Clarence came to our shelter as a senior dog, seeming only to want a peaceful place to sleep and the chance to go outside every day. Instead of putting Clarence up for adoption, we decided he was happiest at the shelter, being loved by the staff and walked each day by the volunteers. Clarence spent his final 3 years living with us. We loved him very much. He passed away sleeping on his special bed that eased his arthritis. His time with us is one of the best examples we can give of the care and compassion given to all animals entering the shelter.
Scar
Scar was brought to the shelter bleeding from a wound that ran almost completely around his neck…the result of being used as bait for dog fighting. We gave him the medical attention he needed, but more importantly, he became the “Shelter” cat…roaming freely and visiting everyone who entered the shelter. Eventually, Scar’s winning personality won out and he was adopted into his forever home.
